FIRE

The story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego which is found in the book of Daniel chapter 3 is well known by many. It is a story of three young men who refused to bow bow down and worship a gold statue made by king Nebuchadnezzer which lead to the king ordering that they should be thrown into the blazing furnace.

Let’s see snippets of this remarkable story… Verse 22 says “Now because the king had given strict orders for the furnace to be made extremely hot, the flames burned up the guards who took the men to the furnace.” Then going down to verse 27 “All the princes, governors, lieutenant governors, and other officials of the king gathered to look at the three men, who had not been harmed by the fire. Their hair was not singed, their clothes were not burned, and there was no smell of smoke on them.”

I had a pressing question in my mind afterwards; Why did the guards who threw them into the furnace get burned up by the flames while Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego who were thrown into the furnace came out unharmed?

The ending part of verse 27 makes it more awe inspiring “…Their hair was not singed, their clothes were not burned, and there was no smell of smoke on them.”
I kept asking myself, how is this possible and I got an answer that shook me up

FIRE CANNOT CONSUME FIRE.

May we be God’s fires upon the earth. Amen.
