IZU AND THE DROUGHT

Izu was a tall flourishing tree, he prided himself in his deep roots, strong stump and ever green leaves. Being the tallest tree in the forest, he was the envy of every other tree. Until one day, something unusual happened, some people came in to the forest with a whizzing thing, when they put it beside any tree, the tree fell with a loud thud. First, it was Azi his friend that fell, then other trees around started falling too. As Izu watched them falling all round, he wished he had legs to run. They put the whizzing thing beside him and he also fell with a loud thud.
When these people left the forest, it didn’t look like a forest anymore. All the trees had been cut down and everywhere looked bare. For a long time, Izu, Azi and all the other trees felt sorry for themselves as there was no rain for a very long time, the country was experiencing drought. A lot of the stumps became very dried, some even got rotten. Izu too was very dry but he kept hoping that rain will fall someday soon and help revive him, Azi and the other dying stumps.

One day, the clouds started gathering and it drizzled a little. The trees were very glad, as this meant they might be able to grow again but then the drizzle stopped and there was no rain again for a long time. The trees felt very sad, until the rains started again. Gradually, the stumps began to bud and soon, the place started to look green again as the dead stumps began to grow.
