Let’s talk about Xerophytes and their morphology.
Xerophytes are a group of plants which are commonly found in dry or desert environment.
There are two types of Xerophytes viz:
– True Xerophytes and
– Pseudo Xerophytes.
The true Xerophytes have the same morphology wherever they grow e.g Cactus. This means that whether a Cactus is grown in a desert or the rainforest, its morphology will NEVER change, because its morphology is not dependent on its environment.
The pseudo Xerophytes however, have varying morphology depending on their environment for e.g Acacia spp. When Acacia grows in a desert, it has tinier leaves and a harder bark but when it grows in the rainforest, the leaves are broader and its bark, less hard.
As a child of God, it’s either you behave like a true Xerophyte; having the same character, irrespective of the environment in which you find yourself or you behave like a pseudo Xerophyte; changing your character to suite the current environment in which you live.
It is left for each of us to examine where we fall and make the necessary changes.
May our environment not make us forsake who we are in Christ. Amen
